The Holy Chocolate Grail

Okay, so I've been pretty good on the New Year's Diet Resolution this week. I'll let you know how that translates into lbs. on Saturday, but right now it sucks. I just heard some crazy middle-aged woman offering money for chocolate to a class of 11th graders. Fortunately, they were looking out for me. Or just looking at me--either one. I took a crochet break from the Glitterfuckingspun shawl in order to finish up a couple of Christmas gifts, and now when I pick it up it's actually not horrible. (It's not Lorna's Laces on wooden needles, it's not a Cherry Tree Hill sock, but it's not horrible.) I can't wait until it's done.

I'm actually taking a break from writing a final right now--I know, I know, I'm blogging at work, but I'm fairly exhausted and if I had to keep working on the damned final I would have disgraced myself by falling asleep and drooling on my keyboard in front of 30 bored 11th graders who wouldn't sell me chocolate. The Cave Troll keeps crawling into bed with us, and nothing disrupts the ol' REM cycles more than Mate screaming "STOP KICKING ME, DAMMIT!" at dark-thirty in the a.m.

I'm going to do an entry tonight with TOP SHEEP, but for now, I thought I'd do another interactive poll. I read Roxie's blog, and she was talking about knitting during SCRUBS, and I read Julie's blog and she was talking about waiting to finish something during MYTHBUSTERS and I thought I'd ask everybody--what shows do you knit to? I use my TV time as an excuse to knit, so my list is long and distinguished--and the reason that my husband ends up cleaning the house a lot.

Shows I knit to: Mythbusters, 24 (lots of knitting time this weekend--wheeee!), ER, Medium, Heroes, CSI: Any-freakin-where, Law & Order (sometimes...SVU, not so much, although Christopher Meloni IS beefcake on the balding-hook), Scrubs, My Name is Earl, Numbers, Ghost Whisperer, Supernatural (okay, I drool a lot during Supernatural because this is my Dirty Old Fat Woman Crush on Cuter, Younger Beefcake show--but I still get a couple of stitches in when I can no longer slobber over Jensen Ackle's dimples in good conscience and must look down in shame)Friday Night Lights, Two and a Half Men, Grey's Anatomy, (mmm....beefcake...)and, since New Years, Top Chef.

What do you watch?

Mostly I knit while Hubby flips. But I do try to watch CSI and LOST. Although, it's hard to knit during LOST when those hunks take off their shirts.

I knit during everything. The only time I can be found sitting in front of the TV and NOT knitting is when I've messed up my hand. Although sometimes trying to watch and knit at the same time leads to major screwups. (I had to rip out ten rows of one of those mohair scarves because I dropped three stitches while watching "Ultra Violet".)

Now see, what I can't figure out is how you READ and knit...not the looking, the logistics... where do you put the book? How do you turn the pages? That's what would drive me bonkers--I'd need to be one of those octopus people with an extra hand coming out from behind my back...

And I'd forgotten about LOST--where I can drool over men that are (mostly) appropriately aged.

The next time I'm reading and knitting, I'll get the husbeast to take a photo.

I'm trying to talk the Husband into signing up for NetFlix just so I can have more knitting time in front of the tube. Ohhh! He just walked by and said that's on his list for Sunday. Yay! I learned to read while knitting in college. First I go to the library and get an older book, one that will lie open on my lap and has sort of tiny print (but not too tiny, my optician put me in trifocals, not because I need them, but because he *knows* me). Knit something fairly easy to memorize and read to your heart's content.

Lost? Oooooh yes! We don't even have to make it official, ladies. there IS a LOST knitalong in effect! Also SURVIVOR for me.

I sometimes tape-record textbooks for visually disabled students (For money. I ain't Mother-freaking Teresa!)I have a cookbook easle that suports just about any book. Prop up the text, position microphone in front of easle, Knit something mindless that the fingers can do without supervision. Voila - triple-tasking! (You stop knitting for a second to turn pages. It's automatic.)

I've been a bad dieter. I found a stash of rumballs yesterday that didn't get shipped out. Looks like I'll be 195 next week, too. But I HAVe gotten a bit more exercise!!

I love knitting to all the shows I watch, but I have to be a bit into the project and know where I'm going. So I knit to battlestar galactica, my name is earl, house, desperate housewives and grey's anatomy.
